An early 18th Century English calendar verge with champleve dial in purpose made silver pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, broad pierced and engraved foot. Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc. Signed silver champleve dial, circular aperture below the centre to reveal the gilt date marking. Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Matching purpose made silver pair cases hallmarked London 1803, silver pendant and bow, maker’s mark “IR”.
In excellent overall condition. Even though the movement was about a century old it was still considered worthwhile to extend its life by making a new case.
